New MOOC on poetry-based approaches in Basic Education for adults – available in German!

KEB RLP are pleased to announce the publication of a new MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) for teachers and those interested in adult education in German! This MOOC offers an innovative qualification programme on poetry-based approaches, building on the experience of previous projects such as the project ‘Poetry-based approaches in basic education’ and the ERASMUS+ project ‘Poetry-based approaches in basic education for adults’. Poetry-based approaches are based on Paulo Freire’s approach to language and writing acquisition, which is characterised by critical discourse, (self-)empowerment and ‘understanding and shaping the world’.

What can you expect from the KEB-MOOC?

The MOOC consists of three modules, which you can complete at your own pace and according to your interests. The different areas of experience in the field of basic education in German as a first and/or second language include …

  • Self-reflection units,
  • Lesson outlines with poetry pedagogical approaches for use in courses/learning opportunities,
  • Examples of experiments,
  • Theoretical background and suggestions, Concrete references to courses for primary school teachers in Rhineland-Palatinate,
  • Literature and internet references,
  • Interactive elements.

A broad concept of poetry is used throughout the approaches, with poetry including music, moving images, dance and art in addition to poems.

This MOOC offers teachers in Rhineland-Palatinate and all interested parties the opportunity to engage intensively with holistic, sustainable and transformative approaches to basic education – approaches that go beyond purely economic and labour market-related aspects.

Modules in the KEB-MOOC:

The MOOC consists of three modules, which deal with different aspects of approaches to poetry education:

  •  Basic Module: Introduction to poetry pedagogy through self-experience and practical examples.
  • German as a Foreign Language Module: Approaches to language promotion and development in the DaE sector.
  • Module German as a second language: Special methods for dealing with German as a second language in adult education.

Innovative learning methods:

The MOOC uses an andragogical methodology that encourages teachers to gain experience and reflect. Instead of classic ‘right or wrong’ tasks, the focus is on practical testing and sharing experiences with colleagues. The learning process is self-directed and based on interactive content such as texts, audio and video files, impulse films, interactive activities and reflection units.

Target groups:

In addition to full-time and volunteer adult education teachers in Rhineland-Palatinate, the MOOC is also aimed at professionals, researchers and anyone interested in holistic approaches to education.

Access to the KEB-MOOC:

You can access the MOOC via the website www.poeta-mooc.com. There you can register for the modules and start directly.

Flexible, location-independent and free, the MOOC is accessible anytime, anywhere. Interested teachers and professionals can create a profile, select courses and start learning. Free access to the MOOC is guaranteed until at least 30 June 2025.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to expand your knowledge of poetry-based approaches in teaching practice and benefit from a flexible, innovative online course!

We look forward to your participation!
